PLANNING & ASSESSMENT

Planning & Assessment

Observation, Planning and Assessment

Our planning cycle starts with observing children at play to understand their current interests, development and learning and making notes about this. We also talk to you to find out what your child can do and already knows as well as about the things your child likes to do at home. This enables us to plan appropriate activities which will form the ‘next steps’ in your child’s learning and development.

It’s important that we keep records of your child’s learning and development. Your child will have a record of your child’s journey on our computer system were we will keep observations, photographs of your child at play, planning targets and a record of your child’s progress.

You can see your child’s progress at any time and we hope that you will also add comments or observations about what your child does at home. You will be given your child’s ‘Learning Profile’ when he / she leaves nursery and you may want to share this with your child’s teacher when he / she starts school.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage as a framework when caring for children and supporting their learning and development.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is mandatory for all schools and early years providers in Ofsted registered settings attended by young children from birth to the end of the academic year in which the child has their fifth birthday. The aim of the EYFS is to help children achieve the outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving wellbeing. It provides assurance that our nursery will keep your child safe and help them to thrive.
